False
Flat: Why Dutch Design is so Good by Adam Eeuwens & Aaron
Betsky
This book
showcases the dynamism of contemporary Dutch design and, through
a detailed exploration of the country's geography, culture, and
history, defines its particularities as a manifestation of things
intrinsically "Dutch." Eschewing a traditional academic
presentation, authors Aaron Betsky and Adam Eeuwens, together
with the renowned Dutch book designer Irma Boom, have conceived
a witty, multidimensional structure for the book that brings to
life a prolific design culture in a rich landscape of interconnected
stories. False Flat consists of an introduction and five illustrated
text chapters by Aaron Betsky, the director of the Netherlands
Architecture Institute. These chapters are interspersed with 16-page
sections consisting solely of selected images and extended captions,
in a unique presentation conceived by Boom. >>more |

Press launches new publication by John Thackara

with a reputation for being "tall, handsome, flamboyant,
loquacious, mischievous, confrontational, passionate, mercurial,

Never
Felt Before! The Extraordinary Felt Designs of Claudy Jongstra
at Moss
Partly primitive, partly animal, part magic, the felt textiles
of Claudy Jongstra are unique in their rough sophistication. Some
seem to come straight from the back of the beast, others are worked
with a finesse that makes them a statement in raw elegance. For
Jongstra uses only raw materials - wild silk, wild linen, wild
camel, wild cashmere and especially wild wool - which she then
felts and treats with original techniques that result in some
of the most creative fabrics ever seen. Felt is her instinctive
fabric, one she never tires of reinventing for clients as varied
as Christian Lacroix, Donna Karan, John Galliano, SO by Alexander
van Slobbe, Hella Jongerius, Steven Holl and many others. This
will be Jongstra's first solo exhibition in the United States.

Mastering
Form and Function, solo exhibition Richard Hutten at Felissimo
Design House
“Mastering
Form and Function” highlights some of Richard Hutten's newest
designs - including furniture, products and light fixtures. This
exhibition focuses on the steps of designing such pieces, from
inspiration to prototypes to the finalized design. Richard Hutten
graduated at the Academy Industrial Design Eindhoven in 1991.
That same year he started his own designstudio, working on a variety
of projects such as: furniture-, product-, interior- and exhibition
design. He developed his 'No sign of design' and 'Table upon table'
concepts. He is one of the most internationally successful Dutch
designers; a key exponent of "Droog Design", in which
