The
End
Picture
gallery of the exhibition preview now online !! A must see...
A massive
creation by Dutch designer Tord Boontje, intended as the final
act in a trilogy of large scale Tord Boontje installations exploring
the myths inherent in universal fairy tales. The first was his
exhibition in Milan during the recent 2004 Salo
ne del Mobile,
“Happy Ever After,” produced by Italian furniture
producer, Moroso. The second, “Forever,” was shown
in London during the September ‘04 Design Week.
“The
End” will be the first solo exhibition of Tord Boontje’s
work in the United States and will be the largest and broadest
presentation of Boontje’s work to date. It has been created
to the specifications of the new Moss Gallery, and will include
eight highly stylized theatrical mis-en-scenes presented on
an 18 meter-long stage.
The new
work continues Boontje’s exploration of hand-crafted historical
ornament, current innovative technologies in textile production,
possible intersections of craft and industry, mythology and
narrative in contemporary design, and the reintroduction of
decorative motives into the design lexicon.
The exhibition
launches many new designs resulting from his most recent research
in textiles, including many one-off pieces and prototypes from
his studio, ideas, synthesized during his studies at Design
Academy Eindhoven, high-technology laser-cut and water-cut fabrics
as well as printed cloth newly created for prominent textile
manufacturer, Kvadrat, several new furniture pieces created
for Moroso, and new chandeliers created for Swarovski, Artenica
and for Coopa Roca, a women’s collective in Brazil. Also
included will be wall-tattoos created for Swarovski, and a large
hand-painted mural which Boontje will execute on location in
New York with his studio assistants.
“The
End” will follow the 10-year tradition at Moss of introducing
new work by emerging Dutch designers.
