Hudson Furniture Inc., a two-year old contract and retail showroom
located in New York's stylish Meatpacking District located at
433 West 14th Street, Second Floor NYC 10014, is pleased to
announce the expansion of the design company's ecologically-friendly
furniture and decor collections, as well as significant new
client business contracts with industry developers Starwood
Resorts in The Bahamas, Four Seasons in The Maldives, Domus
USA, David Rockwell Architects LLC, Kelly Hoppen Interiors of
London, Madeline Stuart Interiors of Los Angeles, Gensler Design,
Clodagh, Jones Apparel, POLO Ralph Lauren & Bergdorf Goodman.
To celebrate
ICFF in New York, famed architects Renzo Piano, Mario Botta
and Terry Dwan created a limited-edition set of tables, on display
for the first time in the USA at Hudson Furniture's showroom
in New York. In conjunction with the annual International Contemporary
Furniture Fair (ICFF) to be held at the Javits Center, Hudson
Furniture Showroom will hold a special industry event for the
national press and designers, architects, contractors, developers,
and the showroom's large national customer base on Friday, May
19, 2006 from 6PM to 10PM.
Hudson Furniture
is New York's only repository for legally-harvested petrified
wood and solid teak and hard-to-find (but not extinct) exotic
wood tables, many as long as 40 feet and 5 feet wide in width.
Hudson Furniture Inc.'s owner Barlas Baylar takes extra precaution
with embassies and consulates to seek approvals for wood deportation
from all over Asia, and secures their individual stamp of approval
as to legality and non-extinct status from Indonesia to Bali
and beyond. Most wood is more than 300 years in age and is removed
by local farmers if it threatens surrounding homes or small
businesses, or when governments build new roads surrounding
their villages.
For Hudson
Furniture Inc. it was like second nature to explore petrified
wood as an extension of its already existing collection of organic
contemporary designs. Petrified wood, having the visual characteristics
of wood but the feel of stone, represents a contemporary fusion
of the two original materials into a new compelling organic
interior accessory.
Petrification
occurs when the wood is covered by volcanic ash, mud flows,
sediments in lakes and swamps which would exclude oxygen to
prevent decay. Each piece is unique with different coloration
which comes from the nutrients and minerals that are found in
the surrounding soil in the region ranging from carbon which
gives black, calcium which is the white and the other minerals
give different colors. The aesthetic of petrified wood stumps
fits in very well with contemporary environments.
"I
am pleased that Hudson Furniture, while a young firm, has achieved
a high level of recognition in the design, architecture and
developer sourcing industry as a 'go-to' destination for ecological
and one-of-a-kind wood, glass and organically-derived objet
d'art. Petrified wood and other rare but sustainable woods are
popular choices this year when architects and designers alike
aspire to a unique and 'living' aesthetic while making purchases
for their commercial and residential properties and projects
throughout the country," said Hudson Furniture Inc. founder
and designer Barlas Baylar.
The Hudson
Furniture Showroom will be open throughout the weekend of ICFF
to be held in New York May 20-23, 2006.
