HauteGREEN
is back for 2007 with an exhibition of the best in sustainable
design for the contemporary home, showcasing furniture, lighting,
and accessories that are both aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly.
Held in Manhattan during the International Contemporary Furniture
Fair, HauteGREEN 2007 will feature a curated collection of over
70 pieces selected from a pool of 241 submissions from across
the US and 20 other countries around the world, including work
by Studio JO Meesters. Spotlighting
design that is beautiful, functional, and sustainable, HauteGREEN
2007 promises to be one of the highlights of New York Design
Week.
Sneak
Preview:
Hosted by lead sponsor Design Within Reach in theirFlatiron
studio at 903 Broadway, this cocktail reception on Wednesday
May 16 will feature a sampling of the pieces in HauteGREEN.
A satellite installation of pieces from the exhibit will be
on display in the windows of the DWR studio through the ICFF
weekend. Cocktails by Reyka Vodka, organic appetizers by Fancy
Girl Catering.
Opening
Party:
Friday May 18, 7-9pm. Open to the public. $10 suggested donation
to benefit 02-NYC. Cocktails provided by Reyka Vodka and essn
natural juice beverages. In partnership with GOOD Magazine.
Tom
Dixon:
A Sustainable Conversation: Design journalist and editor Julie
Taraska will engage London-based design maverick Tom Dixon in
a conversation about his work and concept of sustainable design.

Meet
the Designers:
A panel and walkthrough discussion with a group of designers
featured in HauteGREEN 2007, exploring beyond aesthetics and
into the research, process, materials, and thoughts involved
in creating the objects on display. Produced by o2-NYC and hosted
by Graham Hill, founder of Treehugger.com and HauteGREEN juror.

Reclaiming
Design:
Sunday, May 20, at 5pm. Tejo Remy
of droog fame, and NY designers Carlos Salgado of Scrapile and
Matt Gagnon, along with Sam Grawe of Dwell, will take a critical
look at design processes and the application and implications
of reclaimed materials. Moderated and presented by Jill Fehrenbacher
and Emily Pilloton of Inhabitat.com.
