Oromono
launches new paper collection at the International Contemporary
Furniture Fair
Kirsty Anne
Powell is the Founder and Design Director of Oromono. Graduating
in 2000 with a First class Honours Degree in Textile Design
from Loughborough University, England, she began her career
by freelancing as a textile designer and stylist for interior
magazines in London.
In 2001 she moved away from London to live in the creative city
of Amsterdam. Renowned for its innovative and creative design,
Kirsty decided Holland was the ideal place to set up her own
collection of interior textiles.
Her passion and talent shone through when she sold her first
collection to Donna Karan Home.
Kirsty moved on with her business and designed
and released her first collection of accessories for the contemporary
interior under her company name ‘Oromono’. Her concepts
caught the immediate attention of the Dutch media, which then
spiralled into Oromono being sold throughout Holland and Belgium
within the first six months of trading.
In 2003 news about Oromono’s design concepts started to
spread throughout Europe and in 2004 Oromono exhibited for the
first time at the Maison & Objet Interior Show in Paris,
where Oromono won the best newcomer in Textiles Award.
Kirsty then went on to win a bursary from the European Union
to exhibit the Oromono collection at The Interiors Lifestyle
Show in Tokyo in June 2004.
In October she returned to Tokyo to exhibit at Cibone for Tokyo
Designers Block. She was selected by the Dutch Embassy to show
her collection along side all the top Dutch designers.
Oromono now regularly exhibits at worldwide, the next show will
be at the ICFF in New York.
Kirsty designs
collections for Oromono and also she has produced an exclusive
collection for The Conran Shop, sold in Tokyo, New York, Paris
and London.
She has recently been selected for the top 100 designs for Metropolitan
Home Magazine in the USA, where the Seabloom concept was featured
on the front page.
Kirsty’s design concepts stem from her
passion with textiles and her fascination with the structure
and shapes found within natural forms.
Determined to create an innovative concept that worked 3-Dimensionally
to add texture to an interior space, she constructs sculptural
forms with various natural materials.
Inspired by nature, her collections are designed to produce
a visual impact, to stimulate the mind and add character to
a room with ascents of fabric manipulation, texture and stitch.
Kirsty’s latest collection is made from
Paper, the fabric has all the qualities of Paper, it can be
folded and shaped into various forms as well as being able to
be washed. This collection was inspired by 3-Dimensional details
from fashion.
All Oromono
collections are produced with 100% natural materials and now,
with the textile technologies moving fast, Kirsty is looking
forward to using new innovative fabrics from other natural sources.
