Squared: Dutch Twin Designers Make Debut in US
The Perfect
mixture of naughty and nice in the fashion world is how Spijkers
en Spijkers, a well known European designer, has been described.
Not only is their clothing high fashion, but it is style that
can easily be worn. Ideal for day or evening, Spijkers en Spijkers
has been a foundation in European fashion since 2000 and is
coming to make their debut in the United States.
While creating
fresh and unique avant-garde trends, Spijkers en Spijkers designs
clothing for the modern woman who is not afraid to be bold and
dress the part. Their design style emphasizes a woman’s
sensuous shape and allows any female to feel stylish, beautiful,
and sleek. Spijkers en Spijkers is known specifically for their
fascination and execution of graphic detailing, cut, and unlikely
uses of color. Based on the modernistic style from the 1920s,
the designs mix delicate materials with hard lines.
Spijkers
en Spijkers was founded by Dutch twins Truus and Riet, both
graduates of the College of the Arts in the Netherlands. Perhaps
the reason for the success of the sisters is a result of the
contrasting strengths each twin possesses.Truus, the painter,
sees style and colors, while Riet, the sculptor, turns structural
ideas into articles of clothing. Working together, the sisters
complement each other and seamlessly form a perfect fashion
duo creating functional and timeless designs, with a daring,
modern twist as well as expressing eccentricity and character.
In order
to celebrate their launch in the United States, Spijkers en
Spijkers will be putting their name in the fashion industry
to good use by taking part in Mercedes-Benz Fashion week. On
Friday, September 7th at 6pm, many designers, including Spijkers
en Spijkers will be presenting their one-of-a-kind couture runway
outfits inspired by their favorite characters from the Peanuts
cartoon in a MetLife fashion show. Following the show, fashion
fans will be able to bid on these unique creations in an eBay
auction. The proceeds from these auctions will be donated to
Dress for Success, a well known charity, both in the United
States and Europe. Helping disadvantaged women by providing
professional attire, support, and career development tools,
Dress for Success has served over 300,000 women all over the
world.
Spijkers
en Spijkers signature and recognizable styles have broken the
stereotypical molds of fashion ideas in Europe. Upon their launch
