The Yearbook
Dutch Design presents a well documented and illustrated overview
of important events, exhibitions and products of the year 2003-2004.
Since Dutch design achieved international prestige, also in
Holland the start/finish of the design season is determined
by the international fair 'Salone del Mobile' in Milan. The
springtime presentation of design awards in Rotterdam and Amsterdam
coincides with the start of a new year with striking projects
in the fields of product design, fashion, architecture and graphic
design.
The period
2003-2004 was again characterized by international success:
impressive shows by Hella Jongerius, the definitive breakthrough
of Richard Hutten in Asia, and a stage place for Jurgen Bey.
The yearbook does not only provide a glimpse of the work of
top designers, prepared by the editors Aad Krol and Timo de
Rijk, but it also displays, through unique photography and essential
information, an impressive selection of 80 national projects.
These range from interesting product presentations to important
lectures and exhibitions, launches of striking websites and
house styles, and the publication of crucial books. Design was
everywhere this year, but the Yearbook Dutch Design concentrates
mainly on the discussions and projects of innovative designers
and organizations. In order to be able to evaluate and comment
on these discussions, essays on design education, conceptual
themes and Philips, Michael Rock's important lecture on the
designer as author, and an interview with designer Felix Janssens
on topical matter, have been included in the Yearbook Dutch
Design 2003-2004.
